BIG SAVINGS USING LPG

You can find lots of info on this web site - Greenfuel.org

Man+calcI did a trial costing on this web site of a mythical Ford Mondeo, 1.8 Zetec 5 door, year 2004. The quoted saving was approx. £125/month or £1,500/year. The quoted capital cost of conversion was approx. £1730+VAT.

Stuart (no, this is NOT Stuart!) advises that it is possible to shop around for a lower conversion cost. He says " In simple terms, if I was filling up with petrol I would be paying approx £48 for a 60 litre tank, with gas I pay no more than £24 for a 60 litre tank (At many Morrison's I pay £17 for a tank). Based on this equation you will pay for the conversion after approximately 25,000 miles. Because where possible I fill up at Morrison's (I have a list of 50 that sell LP gas, ranging from 29.9 pence to 35.9 pence per litre) I will pay for the conversion after about 20,000 miles. If I were able to fill up all the time at 29.9 pence per litre the payback would be after 15,000 miles. One of the questions I get asked is whether the car lacks any performance, I can honestly say I have not noticed." Stuart paid £1,800 for his conversion.

And don't forget - you still have your petrol alternative still available! Apparently, after a while you get to know where the LPG stations are. So if you run out you go back over to petrol without you even knowing.

Grants For ConversionMan+£
The 'Powershift' programme is available for Vehicles that are less than five years of age that meet the qualifying emission level and vehicle type. Your vehicle must be listed on the Powershift Register to qualify. Greenfuel constantly updates its information from the register so you can find out whether you qualify for a grant simply by getting a
quotation. If your vehicle is listed we will apply for the grant on your behalf and successful applicants can be awarded between 20-70% conversion funding depending on the car. You may qualify for a 100% exemption from London congestion charges. If your vehicle is not on the Powershift approval scheme it may be possible to get it on there but your vehicle would be needed for at least 4-6 weeks. There are a number of vehicles we are particularly keen to see on the Powershift register.

Organisations have the potential for financial, human resource and environmental benefits. These are attractive to even the smallest fleets and include:

  • 50% reduction in fuel costs which may be shared with employees
  • Lower whole life cost of LPG cars
  • Reduction in Class 1A National Insurance costs
  • Virtual elimination of fuel pilferage
  • Employees given a reduction in Benefit in Kind Taxation on Cars
  • Government grants available on conversions.
  • Congestion charge exemption.
  • All conversion costs receive 100% first year capital allowances.
  • Recognised contribution to the environment.
