Installation & CommissioningIt is of paramount importance that any installation is carried out by a competent person. Our industry has been very complacent in implementing a common specialist-training programme. In the past many have relied upon the traditional Corgi registration as a 'comfort' factor for gauging competence. At last the industry driven by Catering Equipment Distributors Association, in conjunction with associations of the manufacturers, importers and utensils have developed a training assessment programme, which will certify that the catering engineers have met a common standard of competence. It is important that the caterer ensures that only those who have attained such certification carry out their installation or maintenance work. Commissioning the appliance by a CEDA engineer is the only guarantee that a newly installed appliance is functioning safely and is performing to the specification laid down by the manufacturer. Not only will the correct commissioning ensure proper operation but it will also minimise those early teething problems which can be costly and of great inconvenience.
