SATURDAY ACTIVITIES

PIT STOP CHALLENGE

It's probably only once in a lifetime that you get the chance to work as a member of a pit crew and change the wheels on a genuine formula 1 racing car.  More than 30 delegates fulfilled their dream on the Saturday morning.
Richard West explained the task and each team was helped by four of Richard's mechanics.
After a few practice runs the teams each had three timed runs with the final one counting.
All four teams got down to single figures and one team beat the 6 second barrier, but could not repeat it under the pressure of the stop watch.
CEDA Chairman Peter Kitchin said that it was a briliiant team building exercise and added that the stop watch really put you under pressure.

The winning team was Team 3 who changed all four wheels in just over 6 seconds

GOLF Whilst 23 people put their names down to play golf, the conditions were so bad that only 15 hardy souls ventured out onto the course on Saturday afternoon.
A strong and very cold wind made it difficult for all players.  The nearest the pin hole was a 187 yard Par 3 straight into the wind and over water.  Many players needed their driver to even reach the green.
There were three separate competitions going on simultaneously,  CEDA v CESA, Individual CEDA member and Individual Guest plus nearest the pin and longest drive.
The winning team was CEDA, the best CEDA member was Chris Ireland of Bibby, the best guest was Gary Pomfrey of European Watercare, the Nearest the pin went to Tim Evans of Restaurant Magazine and the longest drive prize was won by Andy Gibson of Victor.  Carol Roberts of Bibby won the Ladies prize.

KARTING No doubt inspired by the conference theme and also fueled by adrenalin from the Pit Stop Challenge, 27 delegates travelled to the Daytona Karting Circuit in Milton Keynes for an endurance race.
After a safety briefing and an explanation of  the flags used to control the race, the teams set off only for Peter Hansen to be given the Black Flag for some major breach of the rules!
Competition was fierce and many drivers were reluctant to come in when they got the signal from their pit crew, however, after many tough laps the First Choice Catering Spares Team came through to win the trophy.  Diane Lane of Caterer & Hotelkeeper won the Ladies prize.

MONACO GRAND PRIX EVENING

The Saturday evening was themed around the Monaco Grand Prix with a casino, a large scalectrix, racing car simulators and laser shooting.
Rumour has it that Robin McKnight of Dawsons lost almost 3 Million Dollars in the casino, but then again he could afford it as "the banker" alias Rod Callaway was in a generous mood and was allowing everybody credit.
Special mention should also go to Donna and Simon Randall of Catertech (SW) for entering into the spirit of the evening and turning up in fancy dress.  Simon's purple suit and shaggy dog wig were a delight!
The evening was also time for the presentation of prizes from the days activities.
